Serious silliness for all ages. Artist Sandra Boynton is back and better than ever with completely redrawn versions of her best selling board books. These whimsical and hilarious books, featuring nontraditional texts and her famous animal characters, have been printed on thick board pages, and are sure to educate and entertain children of all ages.

The bright, colorful pictures of familiar animals in a sturdy board book format is great for toddlers, and promises to delight even the smallest reader. The book is short and has enough of a rhyming narrative that young children will remain interested and engaged. Older kids will laugh at the silliness of a cat and rats trying on hats along with other amusing animal antics. Kids who already own other books by Sandra Boynton will recognize familiar characters like the lovable hippopotamus.

The simple rhymes are great for introducing toddlers to words that sound alike. Perhaps your child can think of another word that rhymes with "cat." The book also teaches an important friendship lesson: don't leave someone out. After seeing the hippopotamus looking longingly at the other animals having fun, kids will no doubt be glad to see her joining in the fun. That lesson may even inspire your child to include someone in their circle the next time they see a kid playing alone.

Although Emily, who I read to, is a little older than the target audience, she is a nearly-life-long follower of Boynton's board books. She still enjoys hearing the silly rhymes and admiring the whimsical illustrations. And she's not the only one. I think the illustrations really make the book. They're simple but convey a wealth of emotions and are sure to put a smile on your face as well as your child's.
