If you're looking for a story to read quietly to your kids, this is NOT it. However, this is a great book to help children burn off extra energy through an entertaining combination of song and dance. Each line encourages children to show off their motor skills, ranging from the simple "smile" and "clap your hands," to the more advanced "somersault across the floor." The rhyming text visually flows onto the accompanying page, and its movement suggests a rhythmic dance that kids ages two and up will love. The colorful and descriptive illustrations make it easy for kids to follow the story and dance along with the playful dog, bear and other animals. Parents can join in the fun as well! The book fosters active learning by asking young readers to perform basic tasks such as finding various colors in their environment, or using their fingers and toes to practice counting. There's plenty of silliness, like making a funny face or hopping like a bunny, and it's practically a guarantee that your child will spend a good portion of the book in giggles.I read this story to Emily, a three-year-old that I babysit, who absolutely loved showing off her dance moves. She's in enrolled in a gymnastics class and proudly demonstrated her somersault! This is a wonderful story intended to foster interaction with your child, and is great for when you just want to have some good ol' fashion fun!
