"Dear Zoo" is twenty-five years old -- and still as popular as ever. This children's classic is sure to delight a new generation of children.
This is a delightful board page book with flaps to help teach your little one some fun zoo animals. The pages have all-white backgrounds, so your child can focus completely on the colored flaps and animals. The story is told in a repetitive manner, as the first-person narrator recalls each of the animals the zoo sent him for a pet - and why they wouldn't do. The flaps all open different directions revealing a new zoo animal including an elephant, a camel, and even a snake!
Your little one can control the pace of the book by turning the pages and flipping the flaps by themselves. Although the words don't rhyme, they follow a pattern of "So they sent me a..." so your child can quickly memorize the pattern and have fun guessing what the next animal could be. If they learn all the animals, you can think of more on your own, and guess what the narrator would think of it. He thought the giraffe was too tall, the lion was too fierce, and camel was too grumpy!
When my husband reads this book to Sam, our three-year-old friend, Sam like to shout out each animal's name as soon as he turned the flap. Sam loved the final animal the most because it was something he recognized and could relate to. He had a puppy too!
