A collection of tongue twisters that will bring lots and lots of laughs.

Age: 3 Year-olds | Title: Fox in Socks  |  Author: Dr. Seuss  |  Publisher: Random House Children's Books

A collection of tongue twisters that will bring lots and lots of laughs.

If you want a children's book that will challenge you as much as your little one, look no further! Fox in Socks is one giant tongue twister to put it lightly. The book even warns right on the cover, "This is a book you READ ALOUD to find out just how smart your tongue is. The first time you read it, don't go fast! This Fox is a tricky fox. He'll try to get your tongue in trouble." Do not take that warning lightly. The story builds on itself, beginning with a simple alliterated sentence, then gradually adding more rhymes and alliteration to it until it's a full on word maze. The silly Seussical pictures will keep your child entertained while they wait for you to finally spit out the story.

I recommend reserving this story for play time or other instances where it's okay to get excited. You'll need to approach the book with a great deal of patience, but the payoff is completely worth it! Your little one will likely try to repeat some of the tongue twisters after you, so be ready to help them out. You can also create some personalized tongue twisters using their name, such as "Silly Sam sought soda crackers in the cellar on a Sunday."

My three-year-old friend Sam delighted at watching me stumble over the nearly impossible linguistic puzzles. Every time I would stumble over the words he giggled. I've read this book to him several times since, and it doesn't get any easier - but it's always just as fun. Sam's favorite line is, "Gooey goo/ For chewy chewing!/ That's what that/ Goo-Goose it doing."
