Parent and child can wiggle, stomp, thump, and bend right along with the colorful characters in this book. As they play, children learn important skills, such as listening, focusing attention, following instructions, and accepting a challenge.
Eric Carle's From Head to Toe is a darling, interactive book that incorporates Carle's beautifully textured images of animals. On each page, the animal performs some type of movement, and the child is encouraged to mimic it. The simple text and the repetition will make this title extremely popular with your child.
You and your child will love turning this story into a fun, active game. The repetition of the question "Can you do it?" on each page is followed by "I can do it!" by the child in the book. Your child will certainly take to the floor and act out the gestures of each animal. They will also learn a lot by hearing the names of body parts over and over again.
Whenever I go to my sister's house, I like to read this book to my nieces, Audrey and Emily. They get so excited because the book encourages active play. They also feel a sense of accomplishment by being able to perform every action that the animals do. I love to shout out the questions and get my nieces laughing by acting out some of the movements along with them. I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon than clapping like a seal and kicking like a donkey with Audrey and Emily.
