Originally published in 1961, P.D. Eastman's Go, Dog. Go! remains a classic story that children continue to enjoy. All the dogs in the story are hurrying to an event, traveling by any means necessary. The illustrations are rendered in bright colors, and the dogs are very funny. Whether they are dancing at a party or jumping off of diving boards, the dogs will make your little one laugh with all of their antics.
The storyline is very simple, and the emphasis is mainly on the drawings. There are great rhymes throughout, and your child will love having you read the story aloud. There is a bit of repetition as well, and the text will become familiar after a few readings. The book also inspires a lot of imagination, since dogs are seen in some very unlikely circumstances.
This was one of my favorite books to read as a child. I always thought that the illustrations were absolutely hilarious, particularly when skiing and flying a blimp. For me, this book really captured a sense of frantic silliness that appealed to me. If you are looking for a book that will really get your child engaged and laughing, look no further than Go, Dog. Go!
