This classic story is just as lively and exuberant as it was when published over 50 years ago. Ruth Krauss, wife of Harold and the Purple Crayon author Crockett Johnson, penned the excellent story about a little girl who practices doing all the things that animals can do. The format is the "Little Golden Series" and still has the spot inside the front cover where a child can write his or her name.
With terrific illustrations and catchy rhymes, the story will be a hit with your little one. The simple, peppy rhymes are calming, and the detailed illustrations will hold the attention of your young reader. The book focuses on the sounds and behaviors of animals, which kids always love to emulate. The illustrations incorporate a level of texture and detail that is truly unique.
This book came out a year before my mom was born, and was one of her favorites as a young child. She loved to read it to me when I was growing up. The final page of the book includes the musical bars of the song on which the book is based. My mom took the extra time to learn the song on the piano and sang it to me, which is a really special memory for me.

This is one of those vintage Golden Classics books - in the same style I remember from when I was a child. Do you remember that golden binding? It was originally published over 50 years ago but has been reprinted and is brand new.
I love the simplicity of the book, which follows a little girl as she mimics the animals around her, written in simple rhymes. After the story concludes, you're left with the music sheet of the song which the book is based on.
