This is a must-read for any child who thinks they can't live without their favorite blankie. The simple sentences tell the story of a charming little monkey who creates endless activities with her blankie, but has to learn to lead her own adventure when her blankie blows away; the only way to get it back is to be brave and creative all by herself. The pictures are mildly detailed with attractive colors, engaging children by also encouraging them to use their own imagination to fill in the white space. The sentences are simple enough that your little one can recognize some words. There is no repeating, so it will be read several times before they have it memorized.
Your child will recognize the animals on each page, including Kiki the monkey, a blow fish, crab, and crocodile. Kiki's creativity with all the things her blanket can be used for encourages your child's imagination too! Kiki uses her blankie as a towel, dress, napkin, tent, bandana, cape, and more - can your little one think of any other uses for a blankie? Kiki's distress over losing her blankie is heart wrenching, but she realizes the only way to get her blankie back is to be brave on her own. She learns that she can be something special without her blankie.
This is one of my three-year-old friend, Sam, favorite books. He often takes it around the house and asks the nearest person to read it to him. He started taking the afghan off the couch and dragging it around with him, just like Kiki and her blankie.
