Longjohns

Dressing for winter play involves many layers including longjohns, pants, mittens, and a coat. Once warmly dressed, the main character finds fun in the wintry weather. The day finishes with a sip of hot chocolate before snuggling down to sleep.

This is an absolutely adorable book that follows the process of a child getting dressed for a cold winter day, playing outside, and coming back in for warmth and sleep. The artwork incorporates very bright colors, is not very detailed, but is supremely charming. On the page opposite the artwork is just one word, which names an object or occurrence in the picture.

Your child will love the cartoon artwork in this book. Pointing to the objects that are paired with the word on the page will begin to connect the word and the picture in your child's mind. The simple subject of getting dressed will also be familiar. As your child begins to relate to the subject matter, they will bring this book back to read again and again.

Most of my nieces and nephews live in the Midwest and are very accustomed to dressing for cold weather. The littlest members of my family get extra excited about snow and all of the layers of clothes that snow allows them to wear. I love to cuddle up, read this book to them, and watch their excitement as the boy goes through experiences similar to their own.
