Monsters Don't Eat Broccoli
by Barbara Jean Hicks

In this rollicking picture book written by Barbara Jean Hicks and illustrated by Sue Hendra, monsters insist they don't like broccoli. They'd rather snack on tractors or a rocket ship or two, or tender trailer tidbits, or a wheely, steely stew. But boy do those trees they're munching on look an awful lot like broccoli. Maybe vegetables aren't so bad after all!
This hilarious book will have youngsters laughing out loud and craving healthy monster snacks of their own.

This is a very funny and silly book that your little one will find familiar. The story follows a crew of monsters who are thoroughly grossed out and offended by the idea of eating broccoli. Their stubborn avoidance of the vegetable is for naught, however, since at the end of the book, they eat and enjoy it.

This book will encourage your child to do what might seem impossible to you: eat their vegetables. The illustrations of monsters snacking on tractors and rocket ships will make your child laugh. The expressive monsters are drawn in bright colors that are engaging. It also includes a lot of rhyming and repetition, patterns that will keep your child entertained.

I read this with my nephews Joshua and Michael, and the whole process was quite entertaining. Michael is the older brother and has no problems eating vegetables. However, Joshua is not a fan of vegetables at all. After we were done reading, Michael told Joshua that he would like broccoli if he was old enough to appreciate it.

Just thought I would let you know that my son and I love the book and he has even eaten a few pieces of broccoli since we got it. I don't think that is a coincidence.
