Meet my big sister. She's hilarious, tremendous, and fabulous.  When I grow up, I want to be as clever as she is.

A great addition to the bookshelf for young girls who are expecting to or have recently become a big sister, this book gives the older sibling a sneak peek into how the new baby sees them. The full-page photographs perfectly illustrate the text as the big sister is seen from the perspective of the infant, such as an on-the-ground, close-up of pink sneakers. The big sister will relate to many of the activities, such as painting toenails and talking on the phone. This book shows not only the happy side of having siblings, but also the realistic side as it acknowledges that there will be times when the pair will squabble.

This book opens up a discussion about other important responsibilities of being a big sister. Perhaps your child can think of extra ways that they show love for their younger sibling or fun experiences that she can share with the baby now and when the baby gets bigger. Also relevant to toddlers and preschoolers with older sisters, the book then helps the younger child better understand the big sister.

I read this story to a Clara who is about to become a first-time big sister. We talked at length about how she will show that she loves her baby sibling but that it's also okay to ask for her space sometimes or even feel upset with the new baby.
