In this unique and delightful picture book, the story literally unfolds as pages open dramatically, extending both outward and upward. Monica wants the moon to play with, so her Papa sets out to get it for her. It isn't easy to climb all the way up to the moon, but he finally succeeds - only to find that the moon is too big to carry home! The way in which this problem is solved is a joyful surprise.
This is a multi-faceted story that appeals to children visually, verbally and emotionally, and which also contains a first lesson in natural history, depicting the eternal cycle of the waxing and waning of the moon. The simple text, just right for reading aloud or for the beginning reader expresses perfectly the purity of a father's love for his child.
Eric Carle's Papa, please get the moon for me is a fabulous story about love, and explores a parent's devotion to their child. The girl asks her father to go get her the moon, and the father will stop at nothing to give it to her. It is a simple story made grand by beautiful illustrations and a lot of interactive features like fold-out flaps.
Your child will love to explore all the neat fold-out flaps and will be excited to see what behind them. The story encourages a lot of adventure and imagination, and is full of interesting details. It also incorporates lessons about moon phases.
My nephew Michael and I read this story over and over again. He loves the drawings and has a particular fondness for the fold-out pages. He always has a lot of questions about the story and the different "sizes" of the moon, which makes for some great conversations after we are finished reading.
