Dorothy Kunherdt's Pat the Bunny has been a classic book for the littlest of little ones for ages. The book is physically small, lightweight, and has doubled-up pages, so your child can easily handle and play with it between readings. Each page introduces a new interactive element to engage young viewer's senses and hold their attention. The sentences are short and simplistic, reminiscent of the 'Dick and Jane' books from the past. The pages all display a boarder surrounding Paul and Judy against white backgrounds. The two main characters are drawn simply and there are a few pastel colors, but the focus is on the activities each page offers more than it is on the cartoon children.
Your little one can feel different textures like a soft cottony bunny or the rough surface of Judy's daddy's chin; they can turn up a flap to play peek-a-boo with Paul; and they can even smell scented flowers! One page will reflect their own face for amusement and wonder, while another page even has a tiny book inside it with real turning pages and pictures.
My mother read this book to all of her children when we were just a few months old. She said we all liked touching the fuzzy bunny, and often smiled at our reflections on the mirror page. My mother said my older three-year-old brother would even sometimes stick around in the nursery when she read me this book because he thought it was fun and "smells good - like the baby." To his credit, the flowers do smell like baby powder.

We are expecting a new baby and I thought this would be a great book for our boys to read to the baby. The size of the book makes it so baby can easily hold them as they grow and flip through the pages themselves.
