In his Caldecott Honor book, dePaolo tells the story of Strega Nona, who is the source for potions, cures, magic, and comfort in her Calabrian town. When Strega Nona leaves him alone with her magic pasta pot, Big Anthony is determined to show the townspeople how it works.
This Caldecott Honor Winner tells a whimsical tale about an Italian town that is overrun by pasta because of a misused magic pasta pot. The story was actually created 35 years ago, and continues to charm children around the world.
The story is captivating and full of exciting events. Your child will love to watch Big Anthony squirm as the pasta situation starts to get out of control. They will also be entertained by the images of pasta flowing through the town streets. The book is hilarious but also teaches about the importance of respecting other people's property.
It was so exciting to reread this book because it was one of my absolute favorites as a child. My dad is Italian and would read all of the dialogue in an over-the-top accent. I've always wished that I could get one of those magic pasta pots that would churn out my dad's famous homemade pasta in an instant.
