by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

This cartoon series is based on the children's books by Stan and Jan Berenstain. The Berenstain Bears was co-produced by PBS and the Canadian animation firm Nelvana. The setting is Beartown, a busy community in a most suburban-looking forest, where the Berenstain Bear family - Papa, Mama, Brother, and Sister - live in a fashionable hollow tree. Based on the original stories, the 15-minute segments emphasized pro-social values in an entertaining, easy-to-take fashion.

This video follows the lovable Berenstain family as they embark on all sorts of exciting adventures. In the first of the episodes, they take a car trip to the national parks, much to the dismay of Brother and Sister Bear. Though they protest and say they would rather go to a waterpark, they soon are impressed by the beauty of nature. This collection of six fun episodes will delight your little viewer and keep them engaged through the program.

The funny familiar characters do a great job of introducing new concepts. Each episode discusses what it means to be a good citizen and also touches on the themes of science and nature. These topics are often presented in song, which is a great way to help younger children grasp new ideas.

I remember reading all of The Berenstain Bears books when I was growing up, and it was great fun to revisit all of these characters in video form. Every year, my family would go to Cedar Point, an amusement park in Ohio. I was always terrified of going on the "big rides" but loved the Berenstain Bear Country area, where you could interact with the whole Berenstain family and play in their tree. This is a very fun family of characters, and your child will love seeing them in video form.
