Even the most well behaved little ones have days where they pout...and pout...and pout. Show your child that the desire to pout for various reasons is normal - yet completely reversible! - with The Pout-Pout Fish. The story is presented in a fun way through rhyming couplets and creative descriptions. For example, the squid is described as "quite a slender squiggly sight. She is squirmy, she is squelchy, she is slightly impolite." The pictures are a bright rainbow of color, depicting animated cartoon versions of real sea life, including seahorses, clams, jellyfish, crabs, squid, octopus, and more! Your little one will remain enraptured throughout the story, waiting to find out the surprising solution of what finally brings a huge smile to the pout-pout fish's lips, making him realize he is meant "for spreading cheery-cheeries all over the place!"
Your little one will quickly pick up on the repeating chorus and join in with you reciting, "I'm a pout-pout fish, with a pout-pout face, so I spread the dreary-wearies, all over the place...Blub...Bluuuuub...Bluuuuuub!" We highly encourage you to just have fun with the book and get dramatic with the 'blub, bluuuub, bluuuuuuub's! After the giggles from the story are through, you can help get the message across to your child that pouting does not have to happen, and everyone has more fun when it doesn't.
My two-year-old friend Sage was smiling and clapping her hands in enjoyment half way through the book, because she thought repeating chorus was hilarious. My husband and I were reading the book together, so I suppose it was a little silly to see us both with pouty faces repeating the rhymes. I couldn't even look at my husband or I would burst into laughter too!
