This is one of the funniest, new books on the market today. The story follows a former princess as she tries to participate in the royal hoop jumping contest to prove that she will be the best wife for the prince. Our hero is not a traditional princess though, and creates a lot of humorous scenes with her modern attitude. The authors have created a really wonderful, surprisingly untraditional story that is a fairytale for a new era.

Your child will love all of the drawings and the allusions to old fairytales that they will recognize. As you read through the story together, you will appreciate the sense of humor and the surprises around every turn. The book also contains some vocabulary words that are a bit more advanced. By introducing these words in a hilarious book, your child will be learning new concepts while having a lot of fun.

I recently heard about this book when I went to my niece Emily's house. She loves all sorts of stories about princesses, and when she suggested that we read this one, I thought it was going to be a run of the mill story. I had a blast reading this with her, and she giggled throughout the entire story. This book is sure to be a hit with your child, and you will really love all of the fairytale conventions being turned upside down.

I loved that it wasn't a typical princess story! It featured a Princess that wanted to live a "typical fairytale life" and jumped through hoops to try to win the prize of marrying the Prince. She comes to realized that she doesn't need that to be happy, and quits the contest to go live back with her father in their less-than-Princess-worthy home. My daughter couldn't believe the ending, and neither could I. She wanted to talk about why the Princess didn't want to live in the castle, and we both really liked that she was a strong character, and that she did things her own way. The illustrations were beautiful, and showcased familial fairytale scenes with a slightly modern twist. It was a very funny, and continuously entertaining story. I was just as interested in seeing how the story ended as my daughter, and we both were giggling along the way. It has quickly been one of the most requested bedtime stories in my daughters "favorites rotation."
