Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day
by Jamie Lee Curtis

"Today I feel silly. Mom says it's the heat. I put rouge on the cat and gloves on my feet.
I ate noodles for breakfast and pancakes at night. I dressed like a star and was quite a sight. Today I am sad, my mood's heavy and gray. There's a frown on my face and it's been there all day. My best friend and I had a really big fight. She said that I tattled and I know that she's right."

Silly, cranky, excited, or sad--everyone has moods that can change each day. Jamie Lee Curtis's zany and touching verse, paired with Laura Cornell's whimsical and original illustrations, helps kids explore, identify, and, even have fun with their ever-changing moods.

Today I Feel Silly is another great collaboration between Jamie Lee Curtis and noted illustrator Laura Cornell. Winner of the Bookseller's Choice Award it delves into the mind of a little girl as she tries to deal with her many different emotions. The book covers 13 of her different moods and feelings and faces them in a very upbeat and accepting way.

As you read this story with your child, they will certainly start to identify with all the different feelings. Your child will take comfort in the fact that lots of people experience these emotions. At the end of the book, there is an interactive treat in the form of a mood wheel. Your child can spin the wheel and learn about different feelings. The rhymes are very enjoyable which keeps the overall tone of the book extremely positive.

My niece Emily really enjoys this book, and it has become very important to her. She is getting older, making friends, and dealing with all sorts of emotions. The story has helped her feel more comfortable expressing her emotions, and she got a kick out of playing with the interactive wheel in the back.

The book is high quality and has very sturdy pages (important for little ones that like to turn-and rip-the pages themselves). The story itself is so cute and teaches little ones about moods and that they are ever changing. As for the illustrations, they are fabulously whimsical. They were done by Laura Cornell and I love how she uses up the whole page and rarely leaves any white space. I feel like I could read the book over and over and see something new on every page.

Finally, there is a surprise at the end! I think it's my favorite part. There's a big picture of the little girl's face and you can change her eyes and mouth to depict the mood you want her to be in!
