The songs are filled with creativity, imagination, and fun. The lyrics usually rhyme directly, and the choruses repeat frequently to help listeners learn the song and there are plenty of chances to jump in and sing along. Some of the songs, such as Under a Shady Tree and Boody Boody Ya Ya Ya have fun Berkner-original phrases that are great for singing along with; "Ba beeda bup ba ba ba." Who's This? Is another creative song about all the places you might see your reflection (in a window, or in the water), and the lively beat will make you want to dance! My Energy is another high-energy, fast-tempo song; if ever there was a theme song for a child, this is it! My Energy features the piano and hand clapping. On the other hand, there are also plenty of slower tempo songs in the album. Mahalo is a relaxing Hawaiian-style song with lovely melodies, and teaches your child what 'mahalo' means. Smile is a sweet ballad that a parent could sing to their child about one of the simplest acts a child performs - smiling! The lyrics in After it Rains are absolutely poetic, "After it rains, the sun makes angels in the sky."
Listeners will likely be drawn into the stories of each song, losing themselves in their imagination. You'll envision a pretty flower uprooting itself when no one is looking to frolic and dance in Running Down the Hill. Your child will be thinking of all the different hats that would work in My Hat (Laurie comes up with a Magic hat, construction hat, and birthday hat). You will love all the silly animals, like Mr. Chimpanzee, Mr. Parakeet, Mr. Elephant, and Mr. Alien, in the song Mister. Perhaps your child would have fun joining in the animal sound-effects for Mister, or the "Vroom, vroom and "Shoop" in Drive my Car, or even the familiar sounds when you Blow a Kiss. For a bonding experience, after the song I'm Me and You're You, you and your little one can talk about all the different tastes, varieties, and preferences in people; what is each of your favorite color, favorite ice cream flavor, hair color, and whatever else you would like to share.
My two-year-old friend, Dano, enjoyed dancing around to this CD with his mom. During Song In My Tummy, Dano's mom would tickle his tummy, toes, nose, and chest each time the body part was mentioned in the story. He was giggling up a storm! As soon as the song ended, Dano piped in, "More!"
