Take your little one on a learning adventure while searching for the green sheep. A steady reading cadence and short sentences allow your child to begin recognizing words. Each sentence ends with the same word, "Sheep," creating rhyme and repetition simultaneously, and provides a memory aid to help children memorize and recite the story with you. The cleanly-drawn water painted pictures adds shading and details to otherwise simple drawings. The background of each page is either white or very simple so it is easier to focus on and identify each color.
The sheep on each page are participating in familiar children's activities such as swinging, sliding, bathing, and playing instruments. Children may begin to ask "where is the green sheep" with you, or provide answers each time the question is asked. You can add to the interaction by asking, "where is the ____ sheep" and have them find the sheep of that color or activity in the book.
I read this book to my niece when she was three, and she enjoyed the pictures. The sheep taking a bath with multi-colored bubbles was her favorite. Each time the book asked, "Where is the green sheep?" she would look to me for an answer, but I just smiled and kept reading. She would try to peek at each page as I was turning in, wondering if the green sheep would finally appear. When we finally found the green sheep, she got excited and exclaimed, "There he is!"
