This recording features famous children's songs from all over the world, played by the traditional instruments of each country and a music box. The distinctive chimes of the music box create feelings of tenderness, making this a great CD for family playtime with your littlest one.

This CD will introduce your little one to popular children's songs from England, Spain, France, Italy, Australia, and Germany. The sounds in the songs are as varied as the origins; a bassoon is heard in There's A Palace In Madrid, a clarinet in The Girl Tarara, an oboe in Mocking Bird, and even the bagpipes in If I Only Had a Lassie. The flute and accordion trade off the melody in Mary Had a Little Lamb. This Old Man stands out with a bluegrass feel, featuring a unique combination of the fiddle, flute, and xylophone. The very upbeat song, A Fresh Afternoon In the Month of May, involves a whole slew of instruments including flutes, clarinets, bells, an accordion, and upright bass. The ever-present music box chimes is the motif tying the music together. The songs are played several times in a row, so listeners really get a feel for the melody by the end of the track.

These songs are a fun way for your baby to experience his or her new surroundings, as the rhythms and instrument sounds will stimulate their senses and spark their natural curiosity. The tempos and playful melodies lend themselves to movement like gentle dancing, spinning, or rocking to the beat. I dare you not to move to El concherito! Watch your little one closely and you may see them instinctively reacting, showing different emotions to certain sounds.

I was playing with my one-year-old friend, Dano, in his play area while we listened to this CD, and it was fun to watch him stop whenever he recognized a song - or heard a rhythm he liked - and either smile or move his hands to the beat. I was so impressed to see him keeping the correct beat! He really enjoyed Alouette, as it is the tune to the Itsy Bitsy Spider - his favorite song. He looked at me expectantly, so I obliged and sung the song with the hand motions in tempo with the music.
