My Baby & Me
by Lynn Reiser

Lynn Reiser and Penny Gentieu's concept book focuses on sibling bonding with the new baby in the family. Told in the voice of the "big" brother or sister, close-up photos show the two siblings together doing what each does best, such as drinking from bottle versus from a cup, or giving a toothless gummy smile versus a big toothy grin. It's a nice mix of diverse children of both genders. Here is an upbeat book that helps preschool siblings feel special and important as it promotes a loving relationship.

This is an excellent book for any child, but particularly for those who have a new baby brother or sister. The story is written from the perspective of the older sibling and discusses all of the privileges and joys of being the big sister or brother. The photographs in the book are lively and cute, and the overall story portrays a lot of joy.

The text is minimal, but written with a bouncy rhythm that will engage your child. Children with a new sibling will be able to relate to the story, and find comfort in the positive attitude of the family. The photographs will also be comforting because they portray familiar routines in daily life.

I read this with my niece Emily when her sister was born. She was very excited about having a new sister, but was also a little scared. The book helped answer some of her questions, and she was filled with pride about all of the things she could to help with the new baby. She was very committed to being the best older sister a baby could have.
