Little wombat spends a day doing favorite things - what could they be? Are they your favorites, too? Let's look and see. Soft-toned illustrations portray an endearing little wombat and the warm and friendly world around him. Every page is filled with charming details that stand up to repeated viewings: cute mice, rabbits, and turtles peering from behind tall grass, marching pigeons, and a menagerie of other adorable animals. The images, along with the lyrically rhyming text, combine to make a sweet-spirited bedtime story to ease young ones to sleep.

With a title like this and a main character named Wombat, how could this book be anything short of adorable? Wombat is a loveable little creature who likes to play all sorts of games, but curling up in a little ball is his favorite. The pictures are large, and vary in the amount of background and detail given; some have leaves, grass, flowers, and sky all around the page filling all of the white space, while other pages just feature Wombat and perhaps his shadow. One page becomes a two-page spread on its side to depict Wombat standing tall like a tree. This variety adds to the excitement of turning each page to see what come next. The font is large and fun, moving in all directions depending on the page.

Encourage your little one to join in the fun and play Wombat's games with you. Wombat likes to jump up and down, walk 'round and 'round, make funny faces, stand tall like a tree, and run as fast as he can. (Okay, I purposely skipped the shouting real loud and playing in the mud games.) Wombat also has many animal and insect friends you and your little one can name together, like a frog, turtle, koala, rabbit, mouse, butterfly and bugs!

My two-year-old friend Dano thinks Wombat is the greatest thing since Buzz Lightyear! Dano likes to curl up against his parents while they read him this book. When my husband and I were over one day, we offered to read him a book and Dano went straight for this one. He would point and say excitedly, "Look!" on the pages that Wombat was doing something Dano liked. It was so much fun to see him react to this book, I look forward to reading it to him again.
